Kick off January 24, 2008
About
the Project
The Southern Kentucky Book Fest partners are pleased to sponsor the fifth annual One Campus- One Community- One Book. This year’s selection is Days of the Endless Corvette by Man Martin. The project is designed to cultivate reading and discussion by bringing the entire WKU campus and the Bowling Green community together around one book.
Many free copies of the selected title will be given away at special events on campus and in the community. All are encouraged to read the book and attend the public events and discussions.
Martin’s first novel is a magical Southern tale that takes place in 1970s imaginary Humble County, Georgia. Character Earl Mulvaney is a high school dropout and mechanical genius. When the girl next door breaks Earl’s heart, he finds purpose by creating a whole new Corvette out of the spare parts from maintaining his boss' classic 1953 model. Called hilarious, innovative, and heartbreaking, this coming of age novel is for everyone.
One Book Author Martin will attend events in Bowling Green on February 28, 2008. The Book Fest partners believe this book is an especially appropriate choice this year as Bowling Green is home to GM’s only Corvette Assembly plant and the National Corvette Museum.
Days of the Endless Corvette is Man Martin’s first novel. Martin was a cartoonist and creator of the syndicated comic strip Sibling Revelry before turning to fiction. An Atlanta Journal Constitution review said about Martin, “It’s clear from this debut that he is a writer of considerable talent and humor.” Martin studied writing at Kennesaw State University and Georgia State University and completed his PhD in Spring 2007. He teaches high school English and coaches Debate and lives with his family in Dunwoody, Georgia.
